Spherical cased verge clock-watch with stackfreed

Case: Gilt-brass spherical case, chased with strap-work and arabesques; the dial is at the bottom. Dial: Gilt-brass with Roman hours I-XII and floral half-hour marks surrounding Arabic hours 13-Z4 and a circle calibrated in five-minutes with an engraved star-burst at the centre. This dial, although correct in style, is unlikely to be original. Movement: All steel two-stage movement with three plates and chamfered pillars. The going train is mounted above the striking train. Mainspring with stackfreed mechanism; four wheel going train; verge escapement with dumb-bell balance and short scroll-shaped balance-cock. Striking train with five wheel train (the last a weighted pinion), count-wheel control and nag's head release (with over-lift). The bell is mounted inside the top half of the case. Literature: F.J.
